Originating from Tokyo, Japan, Takeshi Murakami was born in 1962 then went on to soon discover his interest in Animation and Japanese comics. He proceeded to gain a PHD from Nihonga, a school of Japanese painting focusing on traditional Japanese artistic conventions, subjects and techniques. In 1994, he moved his life to New York where he was greatly inspired by the art of western contemporary artists, such as the likes of Jeff Koons. Impressively, Murakami became the 1st Japanese artist to exhibit at Versailles in France in 2010. His art is highly distinguishable due to the bright colours and playful anime-inspired characters. Murakami's works named "My Lonesome Cowboy" estimated to sell between £3,000,000 - £4,000,000 but realised a whopping £15,161,000 at Sotheby's in 2008.
