Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is known to be amongst the most influential, significant representatives and creator of the American Pop Art movement worldwide. The American artist died in 1987 leaving behind not only his legacy, but also, his increasingly valued prints, painting and objects.

Starting as a commercial artist and illustrator and proceeding to integrate his renowned, large-scale, vibrant prints of consumer goods and other advertising images, he eventually became the main advocate of Pop Art. His works focus on diverse issues, for example, violence, celebrity culture and consumerism. The Andy Warhol Museum was founded in 1994 in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which is now the largest museum in America which is dedicated to an individual artist. Signifying his value in the 21st Century, Warhol's "Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster)" realised a breath-taking $105,445,000 at Sotheby's in 2013.
